Book Recommendations.

The books Eric recommended at the start of 2020, and what each one gave him.

Hey everyone, these past few weeks I’ve gotten several questions about book recommendations, so I figured I’d share it with everyone. This is a list of five amazing books I read in 2019, plus an honorable mention. For the most part, they are sharing life experiences accompanied by the insights and lessons learned from it, which as some of you know, is what I like to do.

If you’re looking for a few books to read this year, maybe this list can help. I really enjoyed them.

Side note: This list is only in order from most recently to least recently read. It is not an indication of what was most impactful or how much I liked them.

"Everything is Figureoutable" by Marie Forleo - The author is an entrepreneur sharing the story of her life and her career, especially the challenges she’s faced and the lessons she’s learned and put into practice. Largely discusses the mindset of how "everything is figureoutable" from what that means, to the various applications of it. One of the most powerful mindsets to have. Published in September 2019, I finished it in November 2019.

"The Happiness Equation" by Neil Pasricha - Breaks down happiness into a simple formula and explains it in detail. Gives advice on the macro-level with mindset shifts, and on the micro-level with practical and applicable tips to utilize. I finished this book in October 2019.

"Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy Seals Lead and Win" by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin - Book on leadership in the military, in business, but also in life. Shares lots of stories from the battlefield and from the business world, but the ideas are applicable in anyone’s life. I’ve applied more from this book than most, simply because I think I read it at the right time. I finished it in August 2019.

"Advice Not Given" by Mark Epstein - A practicing psychotherapist’s perspective on Buddhist ideas. A really interesting combination that provided a unique, practical perspective in a book full of great advice and stories. I finished this book back in June 2019.

"Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life" by Gisele Bündchen - The author is a supermodel, but the book goes far beyond that so those of us who aren’t supermodels can relate. A fascinating personal story of her life and the meaningful lessons she’s learned along the way. I finished this book back in late April 2019.

"The Power of Habit" by Charles Duhigg - Especially as we’re entering the new year and thinking about habit change, one of the most powerful things we can do to change our lives, this book delivers insight into how habits work and how we can use that knowledge create and change our habits. Complete with examples, this book is a classic. I finished this book back in September 2017.

First published on Medium (opens in a new tab) on January 1, 2020. Lightly edited for this site.
